I believe that every student can learn more than they think

I am a laid back type of instructor and use my experience and intuition to create unique learning environments for each student. I like students to express themselves in their studies, and I encourage each student to express their natural gifts. I have a creative mind which allows me to relate to many types of students and many subjects and to use student's natural interests as a starting point for learning new material.
I have taught for over 30 years in a variety of institutions, but mostly public schools. I am conversant in Spanish and have a broad range of interests and fields of knowledge, including English literature, Math, History, Science, current events and Politics. I have taught grades 3-12, and have experiences teaching all income levels and socio-economic backgrounds.

I began as an English major then graduated in Physics with honors, cutting edge research experience in both academia and industry, as a published writer, photojournalist and poet. As a result, I can understand why some very intelligent people who perform well with the arts can sometimes be frustrated by the math and sciences, and vice versa. I have previous experience as a private tutor and trainer in industry settings. I have researched alternative energy and biomedical devices so I can answer the question “Will I ever use this?” by citing real world examples. I teach physics, multiple forms of math and writing. In my first position as an ESL instructor in Korea, I taught mainly creative conversational courses with university students, bank executives, government employees, etc. My second institute required a strict method of repetition, conjugation and pronunciation exercises. In each position, I acted as cultural liaison to those interested in visiting or living in North America and I coordinated my curriculum and teaching style to the needs of the individual students. I also taught several private lessons throughout my time in Korea – acting in a sense as a small business owner marketing a product, setting prices and encouraging long-term relationships. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been in the education field for over 20 years. In 1995 I built my own art studio working with adults and children. I worked with brain-injured, autistic, ADD, ADHD, dyslexic, gifted, as well as reg. ed. students. I returned to complete my teaching degree in 2001, graduating from Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, CO in 2005. I have earned an additional 60 credit hours in drawing, painting, watercolors and sculpture. I have been a substitute teacher for Jeffco, Adams 12, and catholic schools for the past 8 years. I have a substitute teaching license from the state of Colorado. I have been subbing for Denver Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District for over three years. I have worked with ages ranging from Kindergarten to 8th grade.
I enjoy working with students and have a high level of patience with each grade level. I am usually pretty laid-back and allow students leeway to have a bit of fun while they learn.
