I believe that every student can learn more than they think

I have taught for over 30 years in a variety of institutions, but mostly public schools. I am conversant in Spanish and have a broad range of interests and fields of knowledge, including English literature, Math, History, Science, current events and Politics. My style is patient, respectful, fair and adaptive. The goal is to find what works well for the student, not take a rigid one-size-fits-all approach that a classroom may employ. I start looking right away for “What is missing?” I have seen many students who are perfectly capable but struggle because they missed a fundamental building block. Learning is always difficult. This is normal and I make sure students remember that. There is a balance to be struck where the student is pushing hard enough to improve but not so hard that they withdraw from the learning process.

A Little Bit About Me...

The best way to learn is by interacting one-on-one with a private instructor. I found this to be true when I was teaching ESL in South Korea and when I was studying Spanish in Ecuador. The best teachers, I’ve found through my experience in grad school, are those that always offer useful suggestions, are good listeners and encourage the students to learn.
In my first position as an ESL instructor in Korea, I taught mainly creative conversational courses with university students, bank executives, government employees, etc. My second institute required a strict method of repetition, conjugation and pronunciation exercises.
