My degree in English served me well in my two periods of teaching in South Korea and Chile. In the former, I taught young children through high school age English in private companies in and around the greater Seoul area. In Chile, I mostly taught adults at the corporate executive level, but also did some tutoring of younger children. In my position as 1 to 1 facilitator currently, I work on a wide plethora of topics with my student, such as math, geography, reading, writing and computer skills. I have also worked at Laradon Hall, an alternative school for dual-diagnosis and highly behavioral children, for the better part of two years.
I have learned patience and understanding in my trips abroad as well as my time spent with the developmentally disabled here in Colorado. My technique mostly stems from understanding how the student learns and then taking the time to structure less ... read more

I'm informal but I like to go into depth whenever possible. I focus on explaining things and understanding concepts, rather than just knowing how to complete certain tasks. I think the tutoring experience should be fun and relaxed, as well as intensely educational, because the best learning occurs when both the teacher and student are interested in the subject.
I enjoy tutoring more than just about any other activity. I've taught private piano lessons to kids for four years, and having grown up with a lot of homeschooled siblings, I know how to work with children as well as adults, and I love helping people learn. My strongest subject is English. I have a Bachelor's degree in it from the University of Denver, with a 3.9 GPA and distinction in my major. My senior thesis won an award for the best critical thesis submitted in my graduating class, and I've received a B on a paper on ... read more

I worked at Moorpark College as an ESL and Writing Tutor, helping students discover ways to identify and clarify ideas, refine a topic, outline ideas, and develop the skills needed to work independently. I have my BA from Scripps College in both English and History. I have significant experience tutoring within the humanities, but also German, math and the sciences. I started college as a Biology major, so I have a firm grounding in mathematics and the sciences, which I have bolstered to prepare for graduate school in Architecture. I was a Jumpstart (AmeriCorps) team leader, which involved implementing early childhood curriculum and promoting skill building for at-risk preschool children.
I have helped children prepare for preschool through games and activities, and community college students brainstorm ideas for transfer essays. I am very organized, responsible and trustworthy. I ... read more

I am very creative, hands-on teacher. I have a passion for kids, art and learning! I incorporate a variety of methods and strategies to meet the individual needs of all students. I believe we are always learning, and that children excel learning what they love. I am kind, caring and compassionate, treating each learner and their talents as a special gift.

I have a substitute teaching license from the state of Colorado. I have been subbing for Denver Public Schools and Cherry Creek School District for over three years. I have worked with ages ranging from Kindergarten to 8th grade.
I enjoy working with students and have a high level of patience with each grade level. I am usually pretty laid-back and allow students leeway to have a bit of fun while they learn. I believe that without a little fun in their daily routines, students grow stagnant and bored easily. I enjoy feeling that I make a difference in student's lives.

My teaching style is to listen to what the person needs help with, and then to ask them what they already know about the subject. Next, I will show him or her to solve the problem, then ask him or her to try it himself or herself. If he or she has any questions, I will answer them. However, I think that it is best for the person to learn how to solve the problems with assistance from myself, but not to do all the work myself. Ultimately, I want the person to rely on his or her own knowledge in order to become more independent; I am only there to encourage and make any needed corrections.
I tutored for one year at Garden City Community College in College Algebra, English, and History. I attended 15 hours of tutor training. I also have worked with children who have severe emotional disturbance in learning social and cognitive skills, as well as improving their self-confidence leve ... read more
