I have been teaching Fine Art (Drawing , Painting and Art History) in a private homeschool program and in my home for 18 years . I have also taught young children and adults privately. For the past ten years, I have been teaching High School English. I have taught grades 9-12 in Literature, Composition and Standards of Learning in preparation for the state exams. I have taught inclusion classes involving students with numerous learning styles and have always met and exceeded the expectations of their parents. I am a very motivating person and tend to use humor as a method of teaching. I teach to and with the child and never down to him/her. I break large components into their simplest forms so that a child learns to take things one step at a time and not feel overwhelmed. As a recent MBA graduate, I would like to apply some of the things learned during my studies into helping others in their area of weakness. Each student is different, so addressing how best to teach each one will vary. I have found that the key to helping language students learn is first finding what will motivate them to learn. Learning a new language opens up a whole new world to the student, one they have never known before. Building off of a student's extra-curricular interests- sports, music, art, fashion, or anything else- transforms learning a language from repeating verb charts to becoming more apt to pursuing his interests in an international way. Upon graduation from school, I moved to Guatemala, where I was an English teacher to Spanish-speaking students for a year. While there, I was able to work on both my Spanish and teaching skills. I have since been able to help English speakers enhance their Spanish proficiency State-side. I am currently working on my Masters in Counseling.
