I taught high school English, journalism and speech for more than 30 years before retiring in 2013. I also taught a year in middle school, a year in community college and worked in administrative positions at the elementary, middle school and high school levels. I have worked with students at all levels, from remedial to advanced placement and worked in an alternative high school setting. I have received training in the scoring of advanced placement literature exams and am a published writer. I also have taught SAT prep classes.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have had a variety of experiences as a teacher. I, at first, worked as a substitute for about 3 years. Then I worked as a 3rd-grade teacher in a private school for one year. Because of enrollment that position was cut. I went back to subbing for a time. From 2004-2009 I have worked for the Dallas School District as a personal tutor. I primarily worked with middle school-high school students. I tutored them both at home and at a computer lab on an internet program. That position was cut because of budget cuts. I am able to tutor in all basic subjects.
I enjoy the process of helping students to learn. It is a great experience to see their minds grasp a new concept or idea. I graduated with my master's three years ago, so I haven't had any actual teaching, but I have tutored for the community college where I live. I tutored essay writing and some math. I was also certified as a tutor through our community college. In college I taught certain subjects, but just for part of certain classes. I am presently tutoring on line also.
As an older student I was very driven to achieve a high level of excellence in my education, hardly ever missing a class.
