I worked at a girls scout camp as a counselor. I taught these girls many things about life and about the importance of learning and improving yourself. A proverb I once heard best describes my teaching philosophy: "Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I become." Thus, my goal as a tutor is to help students discover for themselves. That way learning becomes not only more engaging, but more lasting as well.
After graduating from Utah State, I taught 2nd grade for a year at a charter school. It was a good experience, but I wanted the chance to work with students in a variety of settings. During the past school year, I was hired as the Spanish Specialist at another charter school which has been another great experience. Some of my favorite subjects to teach are math, writing, history, music, and Spanish. I have tutored in English, reading, math, and Spanish.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe teaching is a noble profession. As a missionary I was a teacher for two years. There was a specified message about Jesus Christ and the incredible potential of mankind. Also, I taught English there weekly to natives (including a class for children only -- I made all curriculum up as we went). Now I work with university professors as a Student Consultant on Teaching (SCOT) for the Center for Teaching & Learning at BYU. Friends may describe me as enjoyably casual and patient. A Little Bit About Me...

Ever since I was a child, I have loved education, learning, and especially teaching. I started my college career taking education classes. In most of my summer jobs, I have been a youth counselor and leader. I volunteered as a calculus math tutor at BYU. Serving as a volunteer in Japan taught me many things in culture, religion and ethnicity, as well as a foreign language. I trained missionaries learning the Japanese language and religious lessons. Two years ago, I started my dream of teaching in the elementary school and have enjoyed both 5th and 6th grade. I especially love teaching science and math.
