I believe that learning Math is really very similar to learning a foreign language. I see my job as helping students to become familiar with the "words" and grammar of math so that they can learn to read, understand, and write the language of numbers.
I worked as a Math Tutor throughout college. Since graduating I have occasionally worked with students in a tutoring center and I have helped my own children and their friends in a home setting. As a recent graduate of the CSU East Bay chemistry program, I was given the opportunity to have personal instruction from many different professors. I was able to graduate within four years while working a part time job as an ice hockey official and participating in undergraduate research. I also worked as tutor both for the department of chemistry at CSU East Bay and as a private tutor. I have a bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies with a science concentration and upon finishing my student teaching immediately took a full time job completing the remainder of the school year (March-June 2005) teaching middle school math. In September of 2005 I began teaching middle school science and math as well as elementary school science labs at Santa Barbara Christian School.
