A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students and watching their growth and development academically. My approach to each student is different because I understand each will need a different approach. Initially with each student I identify his or her strengths and weaknesses with the material. While building on their strengths, I attempt to change their perspective towards the course material that seems difficult. For example, if a student is struggling with multiplication but has superior addition skills, I will use addition to help them understand multiplication.

Math is one of the loves in my life. I get excited about doing it, learning more about it, and helping others excel in mathematics. I think there is a good mix between helping too much, and helping too little. In my teaching/coaching/tutoring, I try and see what the students weaknesses are at first, and then try and help them work on those areas. In math, it is critical to know the basics, because like some other subjects, math builds and builds. The concepts learned in elementary (addition, subtraction, etc), are used in more complex forms the rest of one's life. So for each stepping stone in math, it is critical to understand the basics, and move on from there. This is how I will try and teach students to help them achieve in mathematics.

I love teaching and showing people how easy accounting can be and how much it helps you in real life situations. Most students get overwhelmed easily with double entry accrual accounting. I find it best to relate the material directly to the students personal life purchase and income habits. While working on my undergrad I was given the opportunity to be a teaching assistant for a freshman college level film theory and design class. During this opportunity I was responsible for grading the daily work of our students, as well as being a resource for the students design projects. I taught lectures based on film theory and design, as well as specific pieces of film.
I myself am a visual and auditory learner, so I am very open to all types of teaching styles. I find that people learn better when several avenues of learning are available for a subject.
