Throughout high school I was a teacher's assistant helping with students in class during my study halls as well as working one on one with students for extra study skills. In the past few years I have tutored students in elemtary math, middle school reading and writing, and even my own students before and after school in social studies. I currently teach Civics and Economics which is an EOC course and I have taught this for 6 years now. Teacher with gentle touch - Very good at explaining new subj

Web manager and usability analyst as well as instructor. I have been asked at various jobs to teach training classes to my peers because of my ability to deliver an easy to understand lesson. I've been told I am very good at explaining a topic that someone has no experience with at all. I am on contract with NC States Computer Training Unit.
I try to find the teaching style that is going to work for the student. Are they visual? Do they need to touch to learn? Finding out how to teach them and then helping them learn skills for independent study are just as important as the material.

I earned two bachelor degrees from the University of North Carolina in December of 2007. From there, I chose to move to Massachusetts to participate in a ground breaking fellowship at MATCH Charter Public High School. I chose this alternate route to receiving teaching certification because of the classroom experience it provided me. In addition to earning certification and completing student teaching hours, I tutored for 20-30 hours a week in all subject areas in grades 9, 10, and 11. My favorite subjects to tutor are reading, writing, history, and biology.
I am a passionate teacher and tutor. I believe that there is not a minute to waste when working with youth, and I like to conduct vigorous tutorials and well-paced classes. I believe that everyone has a different learning style, and this is why tutoring is such an integral supplement to classroom teaching. I enjoy getting to kno ... read more

I have always been interested in teaching. I have taught for a couple of months as a full-time teacher in Franklin County's Middle School. I have been doing part-time voluntary tutoring for the last three years teaching math, physics, chemistry, computers, and foreign language. I also participate in National Engineer's Week conducted by IBM in which engineers go to different middle and high schools and teach kids about the latest technology fields in engineering, and the importance of gaining a higher level of education.
I love to teach and I get excited when I help a student whose performance was bad before I started teaching him/her but significantly improved after I started teaching them. It is very enjoyable for me and currently I just do it voluntarily for part-time. However, the best thing I like about teaching is that you are shaping the future of young children and helpin ... read more

I have tutored throughout school and into college. During college, I mentored and tutored two young girls from an under-privileged school for a local program. After college, I did some private consulting, helping people write admissions essays and prepare for the ACT and other standardized tests. I've also worked as a Google Answers Researcher and as a grants adviser to nonprofit foundations.
I like to get to know the child and form a friendship with him or her. Once we develop a rapport it is easier for them to open up to me. When the comfort level is established we then develop a mutual-learning relationship, as I can learn from the student just as much as he or she can learn from me.

A Little Bit About Me...

As an undergraduate at Duke University, I supplemented my education with extensive volunteer experience, including tutoring children and adults learning to read. I graduated summa cum laude with a degree in sociology and certificates in human development and African and African American studies. Upon graduation, I joined Teach For America. After a summer teacher training institute, I earned a job in the New Orleans Public Schools. I taught pre-kindergarten for one year and second grade for the following year. In this under-performing, under-resourced school, I orchestrated significant improvement in the reading scores of my second grade students. While teaching I completed 3 graduate level education courses. I am currently pursuing a Ph.D in developmental psychology. I earned a Master's Degree in 2002. My research and studies have focused on early child development. I have also t ... read more

Though I have no official experience as a tutor, being the oldest of three children there was always an oppurtunity to help with homework. I like to teach using visual examples and being patient to allow the student to work at a pace they are comfortable with. I like to allow children to learn in a way they are comfortable with, each child is unique and I believe they enjoying learning when they are allowed to learn in their own style with guidance from a mentor.
As an Elon University Love School of Business graduate I have extensive training in all aspects of business including Finance, Accounting, and Marketing. In addtion I have excellent written and oral communication skills from outside courses and previous tutoring experience.

Teaching is a noble profession that has always been an important part of my life. Both my grandmother and mother taught. Teaching is trying to impart not only knowledge but a love of learning to the student. I motivate students to learn, and I also help them to defy the odds no matter their situation or ability. It is important to me to ensure that the student understands the subject matter at all times. Not all students are the same and so my style of teaching varies in order to make an impact on the student. I remain patient with students and respect them. As an educator, I work hard to guarantee my students success and encourage them to believe in themselves.
