A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching students of all ages.I do not have a set teaching style. I use several methods during our tutoring sessions. I believe that each student is unique and they have their own method of learning information. I help the student identify this method and we work together to expand the student’s knowledge in the given subject. My students inspire and motivate me and I encourage them to continue using what they have learned from our tutoring sessions into their daily lives.
I have over 13 years of tutor experience working with young and adult students. A commercial banker by trade, I currently teach two (2) classes on financial literacy skills to legal immigrant refugees from India, Burma, and Cuba. This volunteer work is offered through the Catholic Charities arm of the Archdiocese of Atlanta. I started teaching these classes roughly six (6) months ago on a volunteer basis, and the classes have been very well received thus far. The first class is entitled "Introduction to Banking", and teaches the fundamentals of personal banking (how to open a checking account, how to write a check, etc.). The second class is focused on family budget planning. Each class is roughly 1.5 - 2 hours in length, depending on the number of questions asked by the students. In addition to the above, I have tutored a foreign immigrant from Turkey in pre-calculus and college-level English. I tutored this student on a volunteer basis for roughly two ... read more

I love teaching and engaging with people of all ages. Everyone learns in a different way, and it is kind of exciting to see how people think and try to connect with them. I believe that it is possible for anyone to learn; some people just have to take a different approach to get to their objective. I love the entire learning and teaching process, and I am pretty fond of people as well!
I can be helpful in math up through Algebra II, and have extensive knowledge of counseling, religious studies, writing, and have used accounting a bit in bookkeeping. I could tutor social studies up through high school because I have found such a great overlap between religion and counseling and human services. Right now I am in a class on trauma and presenting on human trafficking. I can tutor English in grammar and writing composition simply because of all the writing I have had to do for college. ... read more

During the last 10 years I have worked with all levels of students, preschool through college levels. These areas include reading, math, english, psychology, science and social studies. I am a self starter and have worked with parents when I owned/operated my private daycare. I have since then worked with children in low poverty communities in Atlanta Georgia, in order to provide an alternative method to learning to ensure that children receive the appropriate level of understanding of various subjects.
What I have learned working with students is that many do not learn in the same manner. I beleive in what is called top process learning. Given the student a concept and allowing them to explore the possibilities of how one arrives at such a concept has allowed deeper critical thinking and strategic planning. However, this method is not predominately taught in Georgia education ... read more

During my education career of thirty plus years, I have taught grade level and remedial language arts for grades 6-12, as well as freshman composition (college level), Advanced Placement Literature and Language, and college prep literature and writing courses. While employed as a high school teacher and department head, I elected to teach courses from the entire spectrum of those offered in English. Thus, I am experienced in attending to students' skills and effective instruction in relation to state requirements and test results. Immediately following retirement in 2004, as an education consultant for a major publishing company, I taught reading and language arts to diverse elementary students in cities in the Midwest, Southwest, and Southeast until 2008. I constantly assessed the impact of lesson design and specific teaching strategies for individuals and groups within given enviro ... read more

I have a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Management and a minor in Psychology. I have had several years of experience working with the public. I enjoy working with children and helping them to succeed. I have the patience to help them achieve their goals. I have worked with adults helping them achieve their GED and placing them into training programs.
It is much easier to learn, if you know the instructor is working with you and for you. I think if the person is in a relaxed atmosphere and they know they are moving forward toward their goal, they will feel the rewards of their efforts. It is easier to learn when the instructor and the child are working for the same goals.

I have always had a passion for educating children. In the process, I have been able to observe different teachers and their methods. So I was able to form my own tutoring style and method that has worked pretty well for me and my students. I have always encouraged my students to learn by letting them have a more hands on approach and also more interactive. I firmly believe, that even with adults and more in children, in order to hold their attention, they must be interested and involved. So I strive to make my lesson plans captivating and interactive. I believe children can learn easier if they enjoy doing it.

Education for me is second nature. My teaching practice encompasses many different techniques to address many different learning styles. I constantly strive to effectively combine traditional lecture-style approaches with new, fresh, dynamic presentations which bring to life the sometimes dull, gray subject matter that students have to deal with. I also employ a very personal, approachable demeanor which gives students the perspective of a teacher as another human being and not an omnipotent sage in his ivory tower of knowledge.
As a lifelong academician, writer, and researcher, I have embraced the experiences and general culture of that of an educator. In addition to my undergraduate degree in Education, I have earned an MS and Ph. D. in the Parapsychic Sciences and Philosophy. Along with my varied classroom instructional experiences, I have had the good fortune of writing an ... read more

The teaching style I prefer begins with making each child feel important and presenting the material in a way that everyone understands and feels comfortable. I'm currently enrolled in the Start Smart Early Childhood Subtitute teaching program sponsored though the United Way. This training provides an on hands class stimulation and different teaching methods. It is my goal to make learning fun and rewarding.
I have no teaching experience but I'm in the process of getting my State Of Georgia teaching certification though troops to teachers program sponsor by the Georgia Department of Labor. I also applied and was accepted in the Thomson Learning program teaching ESL in South Korea for one year. I was also employed part time as a GED Test Proctor though Harrisburg Area Community College. I was a male mentor and a member of the Big Brother Program in Harrisburg PA.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that it is essential to expect excellence and encourage that in the learning child. I believe that all life activities and situations can become a class for the young child and that positive input is the only acceptable criteria. Achedemic learning can be so much fun and can be applied to any segment of a child's daily activities. I have found that if a child feels that the teacher genuinely cares for him/her, that child can exceed even his/her own expectations. I understand the learning process and highly respect the individualized patterns that it can take. This is a part of the thrill of teaching and watching the light go on in a child.

Over the past 12 years, I've earned numerous degrees and certifications, however, none of them compare with what I've learned from the students I've personally taught. Each year in the classroom has taught me that children learn and thrive on a diverse number of situations and goals. I've learned that there is no one right way for any child, and that finding the link to their understanding is essential. As an educator, I believe that additional means of differentiation and individualized learning is desperately needed.
I sincerely believe that my specific learning style is one of trust and love. I firmly believe that in order for a student to learn, they must both trust you and believe that you like or love them. Knowing this, my style of teaching is a personal one. I prefer to push my students within their comfort level. Many of my students often say "this is too hard." Whe ... read more

I love helping people to see the other side of things, and understand how simple complex systems can be. Mainly, I like to inspire thought, and provoke an individual learning style in all those I mentor. In language and English, I believe reading diversity are key, in math I instill a grasp for formulas so that the child merely hast to insert numbers and follow routine, In history it's important to relate to today's issues and follow up boring facts with interesting relational occurrences. Overall, I seek to instill a joy with learning, and I pressure those I teach to not only understand, but creatively foster their own perspectives and takes on the matters at hand.
As a person I have always held my work ethic to remarkable standards. I've finished an Associate's Degree in two years flat, and am well on my way to having completed a bachelor's in only three and a half years time. Al ... read more
