I am a certified English and ESL teacher with more than nine years of formal experience. I was recently recognized as the Teacher of the Year for my school and district. Also, I've studied, taught, and given teacher trainings around the world. I tailor my teaching to the learning sales and needs of my students, but I personally like to make my lesions Nd sessions as realistic as possible. Currently I am a National Board Certified Teacher in Literacy and will hold this certification until 2019. My NC Teaching License cover Language Arts, Social Studies, Reading K-12, and Elementary Education. I have taught reading from K to 12 and adult reading at the college level. My career has been wide and varied from teaching EC in the elementary school to suppervising graduate students at UNC-Chapel Hill in the Professional Development School.

My teaching style is very flexible depending on the student. I select programs which best fits the student, rather than forcing a student into a specific program that I prefer. My expectations are high for each student. When the expectations are set high, students tend to reach to meet these expectations. Thus it "stretches" each child to reach their maximum potential.
I began teaching in 1976 in Tarboro, NC. My first teaching experience was in the middle school, grade 8. After that year, I taught fourth grade for 6 years. My next assignment was teaching at a junior high school grade 8 Language Arts, and grade 9 Basic English, and Diagnostic and Prescriptive Reading. This was followed by teaching middle school grade 6 for 5 years. After completing my Masters in Reading, I worked with the UNC-Chapel Hill Professional Development School supervising graduate students in Guida ... read more

My comments on tutoring Language Arts : Certified in Middle School Language Arts

I have a unique background. It includes both education and marketing with Fortune 50 companies. As an educator, my students received many awards for outstanding achievement. As a senior marketing manager, I received awards for program development, direct mail, marketing programs and sales achievement. Learning as an Individual, Believing in Your Value

Have worked with elementary age children and have tutored/mentored in the workplace. With many years of work experience with employees of varying skill levels, I understand what it takes to be a valued contributor and understand that students learn in very different ways. Creating a relationship with information that is meaningful to the student is the best way to help them learn a concept or process. Most learning focuses on information assimilation while I focus on applying the concept or process to a real work situation that has meaning to the student.
Discovery with emphasis on individual learning style - for instance tactical or visual instead of instructional - also have worked with kids who have emotional issues or self image issues that hold them back from learning - interested in working with kids who are in need of a someone who sees them as an individual

Making Learning Fun and Easy!

I have a bachelors degree in Economics with a concentration in mathematics. I have been tutoring all of my life. I've tutored children, college students, and adults. I've tutored mathematics, grammar, reading, writing, and the military entrance exam. I tutor all levels of mathematics up through Calculus. I would love to help you learn and understand at your own pace.
My teaching style is to move at the students pace - however slowly or quickly that may be. I don't mind being asked the same questions. In fact, I believe that there is no such thing as a bad question, and that a student should ask a question as many times as s/he feels it is necessary to do so.
