I love to incorporate creative and outside-the-box approaches in my teaching methods. I genuinely believe that often, to get students to understand material, they need to be interested in the concepts and I try to keep that in mind during my preparation. I also believe it is important to help students learn to become critical thinkers and independent learners, and therefore, I try to push them to achieve success beyond what they believe they are capable of achieving. I have taught English/Language Arts for 3 years to 6-8 grade students, and I have worked as a tutor in various capacities for the past 7 years. This past summer I opened my own business: a program dedicated to teaching the craft of creative writing to kids. Currently, I am back in school at University of Dayton's online graduate program, with a goal of obtaining my Master's of Literacy.

Most recently, I served as a short and long-term substitute in middle school Read 180 classes for Columbus City Schools. Read 180 is a course that strengthens reading skills. Prior to that, I worked as a tutor at Sylvan Learning Center. I facilitated tutoring sessions for small groups of students who presented various needs. I have, also, had the opportunity to teach at Columbus State Community College. There I had the privilege of providing instruction in three sections of a required English class. The goal for students was to produce a research paper written to persuade its audience. My first full-time teaching job, upon graduating from Ohio State, was as a middle and high school Language Arts teacher at a private school. I worked with students in grades six through nine. In addition, I was the first American Sign Language teacher and got the program underway.

My teaching style is a bit unorthodox. It's easy to lecture through to the class, but it doesn't really engage the student to want to learn. When I was in college, a lot of my professors had styles that were much more intimate and personal with the students. I attended The Ohio State University and got my Bachelors degree in Human Development and Family Sciences with a concentration in Early Childhood Development. After that I continued my education at Capital University to obtain my teaching license for PK-3 regular classroom education, as well as Intervention Specalist K-12 and a Reading Endorsment K-12.
