I am currently enrolled in Desoto High School in arcadia florida. I love math and still have time for my CNA training. I am a senior this year. I am currently in a class where i tutor ninth and tenth graders in any subject but i prefer math. Call me a math wizard if you would. I hope to become a part time math tutor someday and a certified nursing assistant and more through life. I can be strict but I do show empathy and try to put myself in other's situation. I don't judge I believe every child learns in thier own way but with time and patience it can be done. I do push sometimes to see results but in the end the happy ending is worth it. I enjoy using a variety of techniques with my students. We play games, use various software programs, and other helpful one on one devices to assist students in understanding and remembering concepts. I find it partucularly useful to take time to get to know the student's interests so that I can relate each subject to things that the student is familiar with. Making this connection between a difficult concept and the student's personal areas of interest helps the student feel comfortable with the subject and therefore more confident thinking through each question presented. Once confidence is established, it becomes easier for students to develop an understanding of the subject area that can be applied without the tutor present. I entered Virginia Tech as an honors math and physics student and graduated in three years with my BS in physics. At the moment I am trying to decide if I would like to go to grad school to continue on to something else, hopefully with math and physic as at least peripherally relevant. My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it.
