I have high expectations of my adult students, but am understanding of the limited time most have. Therefore, I try to maximize class time and try to be flexible with scheduling. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every child is able to learn and that all have the right to achieve their maximum potential. I am structured in my approach but strive to listen to the child's opinions. In the past, my classroom rules were based upon Jim Fay's Love and Logic; essentially, I will treat you with respect, and feel free to do anything that does not cause a problem for anyone else.
I have 31 years of teaching both learning disabled and cognitively disabled children. I have been trained extensively in working with youngsters who are dyslexic and dyscalculic ( math disabilities). In addition I have taught children who were on the spectrum, including those with Aspergers. I am proficient at assessing a child's strengths and weaknesses and developing a learning program which will build upon strengths in order to address underlying weaknesses.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Reading : Dr. Suess among others are outstanding for teaching reading to children.

One of my greatest strengths is bringing enjoyment to the learning - finding connections with the interests of the student and the subject matter. The student begins to take on his/her own next level of independence and pride.
I am honored to have been able to help different populations from the pre-K in reading to the elderly in computer basics. I am fortunate in the ability to pick up on the needs of individuals and how to adapt to their learning styles. I invest in behind the scenes research for best tools to aid the student using her or his strengths.
