I remember as a student, often times I could not fully understand a new subject until I learned “why”. I believe that most children (and young adults), being inquisitive in nature, need to know “why”, not just “what”, “who”, or whatever else is important to learn. “Why” makes things make sense, and allows connections to be made to related concepts. When teaching, I try to get students to understand “why” as much as possible. I also try to get them to do as much as possible, make them work for the answers, instead of spoon feeding them. I am very patient, and will take the time to teach a concept as many times as necessary, without getting frustrated, and without frustration the student.
