My approach to teaching is informal and fun, with an emphasis on conversation, including diction and pronunciation, colloquial speech and idioms, as well as public speaking and culture. What I have to offer would be especially useful for anyone with a working knowledge of German who wishes to improve his or her conversation skills, or who wishes to gain a deeper knowledge of the culture--in particular the key differences between American and German culture.

The best retention of material and new skills comes when a student finds the subject engaging and is able to relate the subject to their own experiences, passions, and goals. All people learn differently; therefore, it is helpful when a student is able to learn particular methods and study skills that will continue to benefit their future learning. I received my B.A. in English from Appalachian State University where I also received training in education. Afterward, I became an instructor at Richmond Community College, teaching basic reading and math to adults with learning disabilities as well as a course on PC literacy & business training. In addition to classroom instruction, I've had one-on-one experience tutoring university students in English and Learning Skills.
I strongly believe that the success of education depends on how well it targets a student's learning style and values. Everyone can learn, but individual attention is a vital part of that. We don't all learn the same way or at the same speed, and these differences should be addressed in a positive and creative way to both convey the subject material and strengthen a student's ability to learn in the future.
