While currently finishing high school I have some experience in tutoring. Most of my experiences include: reading, spelling, writing and public speaking. I have worked mostly with grades 5 and under but as a high school student, I am familiar with curriculum above those ages. While earning my degree I worked as a pre-school teacher creating lesson plans and activites that were age appropriate. I have two years experience in public school teaching English for grades 9-12, and one year experience teaching journalism, art, yearbook and English in a private school.
All childern have the capacity to excel. It requires discovering the ways a student learns best (visual,auditory etc.) and applying that to teaching techniques with the expectation of success. I teach every lesson with a verbal, a visual, and written instruction so a student has every opportunity to retain knowledge and instruction. Having homeschooled my children (eldest is attending a top 20 public university)and volunteering extensively in the school community, I have become familiar with a wide variety of learning styles. My legal background has prepared me for tutoring in that I am able to effectively communicate with the student and present the material in a manner conducive to a learning experience(similar to explaining legalese to a lay person). Above all, I strive to ensure that the student has a true understanding of the materials, as opposed to simple memorization. I strongly encourage the student to take an analytical approach to learning, and to view both sides of any issue so that true understaning of the subject matter is achieved.
