Experience with phonics(as a teacher of 1st graders, also experience with children who have learning difficulties, referred to by the school. These children ranged from kindergarten to 8th grades. Special emphasis on reading and writing. I taught in public and private schools and have tutored in my home 10 years. I recently worked with Professional Tutors of America, with junior high students in math.
I enjoy working one on one with children to improve academic performance. I have a number of books collected to supplement learning. I like using at least 5 different kinds of activities per session to keep interest. I enjoy working with phonics and have used it extensively to build performance. I enjoy using books that interest each child to help them have a great desire for reading.

The key to teaching any age of student is the ability of the teacher or tutor to recognize the students level of need and their adherence to a study regiment. Some students learn best in a conventional step-by-step process, while others learn better with real world applications or a "reason" for a particular concept. I am excellent at recognizing what type of curriculum a student would excel under. I try to target problem areas that students are having. I encourage them to ask questions and stop me when I am explaining something in order for them to understand it better. It really puts a smile on my face when I can see their frustration melt away. There is no set style that I teach it just depends on where the students strengths and weaknesses lie. Mathematics and the sciences don't have to be near as difficult as they are made out to be, it's all about the problem solving process.

County schools and Lancaster School District. Substitute during 2009-2010 year at Humboldt County special education schools also elementary and high school in Ferndale, CA. Taught 16 years at the college / university level
