A Little Bit About Me...

My style is relaxed. Many students appear frightened of math at first. I cover each subject well, allowing students to ask many questions. I encourage students to work problems while I watch, so I can catch them at the moment they make a mistake. I love teaching students of all ages, in basic math, algebra, statistics, and calculus. I have gotten feedback from students, indicating how much they appreciated my instruction... living for seeing the light come on in a student's eyes.
As a psychology major, at the beginning of my education, I discovered that I had a love and talent for mathematics. Thus I pursued a dual degree in Psychology and Math. A Little Bit About Me...

The majority of my experience was obtained directly from my courses of study during my collegiate career. While taking all of my Physics courses math was a very important skill to have and be able to apply in a physical sense. Communication is a skill which I obtained while working alone or in a team for research purposes. I have a little over a year of experience as a lab assistant teaching astronomy on a college level.
The key to teaching any age of student is the ability of the teacher or tutor to recognize the students level of need and their adherence to a study regiment. I try to target problem areas that students are having. I encourage them to ask questions and stop me when I am explaining something in order for them to understand it better. It really puts a smile on my face when I can see their frustration melt away. There is no set style that I teach it just depends on where the students strengths and weaknesses lie. Mathematics and the sciences don't have to be near as difficult as they are made out to be, it's all about the problem solving process.

I love being able to help children better understand their material. That is the best part of being a tutor or teacher because you get to see the light bulb finally go off when the child understands it and the joy they feel. When I tutor I do not just give the child the answer I constantly ask them what they think the next step is or how they would go about starting the problem. If it involves a formula or the kid is still confused I have them pull out their book so they can find an example and maybe follow along. Students do not use their books enough these days and I think it is an important thing especially once they get into college.
