A Little Bit About Me...

While earning my MA in English at California State University, Fresno, I spent two exciting years teaching beginning college writing. I chose to teach the class for students who did not pass the entrance exam for Fresno State because I enjoyed working with the diverse, and primarily ESL, students who populated these classes. I also spent three years tutoring many terrific students there in reading and essay writing. Currently, I volunteer to tutor adults, and attend professional development meetings in tutoring, through the Tulare County Library’s “Read to Succeed” program.
My style of tutoring is skills-focused, with a goal of student independence. I am patient and work to facilitate a student’s ability to do the work herself, by giving her strategies for navigating her own work, and helping her to see, or mentally organize, reading and writing in new ways. I believe all students can be successful given the right tools and resources. It is my job as a tutor to facilitate this success by developing techniques and strategies to meet the needs of the students learning style and goals.
I have been an educator for over 10 years. I have taught elementary for 5 years, high school for 2 years, tutored for 3 years and am currently working as a substitute teacher/tutor. During this time I have taught English, Science, Reading , Language Arts, History, Greek, Hebrew, Spanish, and Math. I currently tutor Math, Reading and English for students from Elementary to High School. I have tutored Algebra, Geometry and Pre-Algebra. My area of education and experience is working with students who are difficult learners, ADD, English is Second Language or struggling with a particular subject and helping them to reach their goals.
