A Little Bit About Me...

I have throughout my entire grade school career been both a tutor and a mentor. As young as in nine years old in fourth grade I was selected to tutor kindergarten children in mathematics. As I grew older, I continually tutored my peers in a multitude of subjects, math being the prominent and my best subject. In my junior year of high school, I was personally selected to mentor and tutor at risk middle school aged children at the partnered junior high. The program I was in was specifically for high school seniors who applied and made it, when one applicant dropped out, I was their first choice as a replacement because of my excellent grades, behavioral record and proven responsibility. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always wanted to teach Math and have finally been able to take time off from full time work to obtain the required education to do so. I realize that many folks experience difficulty learning Math. In most cases, there are several ways to teach a particular concept. If one method does not click with a student, I will try another method until we find on that works. I also like to teach using practical examples that students may actually experience in their life to help students understand the value of learning math.
For the past 28 years, I have worked in Industry as an Electrical Engineer. I have earned both an AS in Science and Mathematics as well as completed all requirements for my BA in business administration with a concentration in accounting. I have volunteered at an elementary school tutoring while I was in high school. I have also tutored individuals in college level material on a private basis for compensation. My primary strength is mathematics although I am quite skilled in English as well.
I have always possessed a love of helping others to learn. It brings me great joy to witness when an individual grasps a concept which they have been having difficulty with. I tend to use a demonstrator style of teaching by first working through a problem slowly while asking the student questions to ensure that they understand what I am doing. Then I help them work through similar problems while providing help until they fully grasp a concept.

I have worked for an after school program for the past five years. In this position I was able to tutor students and help them with their homework. The experience I have is with students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade. I did my student teaching in a preschool and a 2nd grade classroom. In the after school program and the student teaching experience I helped students with all school subjects including english, math, science, social studies and reading.
I pride myself on helping students have fun while learning. I believe that if a student is not enjoying themselves they will not learn.
