A Little Bit About Me...

Since I earned my K-6 teaching license, I have worked with children in several different instructional/mentor/tutoring positions. I worked as a teaching assistant in Fifth Grade and First Grade. At the same time, I was also the Education Director for the local Boys and Girls Club. I have also subbed and worked as a tutor since March of 2009.
I enjoy teaching and working with elementary aged children. I love those moments when, after much effort, the light of understanding dawns in a student's eyes. When it comes to how children acquire knowledge, I believe it is very important to help them build new knowledge based upon their prior knowledge and experiences. I believe learning is about confidence. I have seen numerous students doing poorly in courses because they were convinced that they were not capable of learning the subject matter. Small successes help to build confidence in order to move on to the subsequent challenges. I believe in starting with the basics, and making sure that the students truly grasps the subject matter before moving to more difficult concepts. Often, it takes several different approaches before a student is able to understand the concept.
