A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Bachelors in English from Dominican University. I began A Plus Master Tutoring Center over 4 years ago and was teaching in my home. Now we have expanded to a center in Oak Park and we tutor all ages, from Pre-K to adults. Our subjects range from phonics to algebra. Our teaching styles vary from a 3:1 ratio, which would include up to three students and one tutor, or a 1:1 ratio which would be a private session with a student and a tutor. Session prices range from $25-$27 depending on the type of session. We pride ourselves in being an affordable tutoring center compared with the prices of Huntington and Sylvan learning centers. My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : Study skills are necessary to learn especially in preparation for Junior High/Middle School. These involve note taking skills and organization skills which enforces study skills.

I teach with a hands-on style. I incorporate various strategies based on the student's needs such as kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and a combination if needed. I observe and I assess student's strengths and weaknesses. Based on the information and results, I determine the correct strategy to use to help a student.
Over 16 years, I have taught various subjects for students with hearing impairments. I also have experience in teaching students with multiple disabilities as well. Hello, my name is Jennifer Garcia and I am currently in the final stage of becoming a certified elementary teacher. My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : Taught elementary school, mostly grades 3-6 most of my life in a self contained classroom teaching all subject areas. Excellent teacher with Superior ratings. Use sticky notes, outlining, inquiry method to teach some of these skills.

Prefer to facilitate learning and provide more hands on activities. Try to connect reading with writing as the two subjects are very much intertwined in the skills they take. Great at teaching across the curriculum to help students in subject areas that require reading of nonfiction

The Achievement Centers, our after school tutorial/diagnostic clinic and before and after school care, is available for all ages and subjects. Tutoring and diagnostic testing is available after school, evenings (Monday – Friday) and Saturday mornings. The clinic is available year-round. Our testing clinician and school psychologist offer a Psychoeducational Evaluation to all new students.
