I have a Bachelors in English from Dominican University. I began A Plus Master Tutoring Center over 4 years ago and was teaching in my home. Now we have expanded to a center in Oak Park and we tutor all ages, from Pre-K to adults. Our subjects range from phonics to algebra. My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : Study skills are necessary to learn especially in preparation for Junior High/Middle School. These involve note taking skills and organization skills which enforces study skills.

I teach with a hands-on style. I incorporate various strategies based on the student's needs such as kinesthetic, visual, auditory, and a combination if needed. I observe and I assess student's strengths and weaknesses. Based on the information and results, I determine the correct strategy to use to help a student.
Over 16 years, I have taught various subjects for students with hearing impairments. I also have experience in teaching students with multiple disabilities as well. I have had experience in teaching an after school program with students who needed assistance in learning. In addition, I have taught American Sign Language classes to parents. Hello, my name is Jennifer Garcia and I am currently in the final stage of becoming a certified elementary teacher. My experience began in high school when I offered my tutoring services to elementary children. The student was in grade school and I assisted in math for a period of 3 months. I am not young enough to know everything

I agree with the concept that each person learns a bit differently, and even more so that as a tutor, I should try and find the most effective style for my tutee. My academic career also taught me the importance of setting time limits for each action item; and switching tasks to keep the mind sharp.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : Taught elementary school, mostly grades 3-6 most of my life in a self contained classroom teaching all subject areas. Excellent teacher with Superior ratings. Use sticky notes, outlining, inquiry method to teach some of these skills.

Prefer to facilitate learning and provide more hands on activities. Try to connect reading with writing as the two subjects are very much intertwined in the skills they take. Great at teaching across the curriculum to help students in subject areas that require reading of nonfiction
