I have served as a Writing Tutor with UVU for five years now, tutoring in all genres. In April I will graduate with my BS in English and Creative Writing. I worked as a tutor of writing at Austin Community College in TX from 1/07-12/07. Currently I serve as a TA for an Intro to Creative Writing class at UVU in which I grade half of student work and teach once a month. I was accepted to the University of Houston's MFA program this fall, where I will also teach undergraduate composition. I served as Editor-in-Chief of UVU's literary magazine entitle, Touchstones. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children and helping them discover their individual learning style. I believe all children can learn but that we each have our individual strengths. I beleive that discovering ties to students pre-existing knowledge is the key to getting their intrest in a subject. Students learn best when they feel safe and understood. I work hard to understand my student's needs and help them discover their strengths.
I have taught and tutored K-12 subjects English, Basic Math, History, and Science for three years as an Educational Specialist helping home school students. For the past three years I have taught in Utah Elementary schools in the primary grades. My favorite job of all time was teaching ESL in a middle school. I love education and helping students learn to read, write and love math.

A Little Bit About Me...

A proverb I once heard best describes my teaching philosophy: "Tell me and I forget, show me and I remember, involve me and I become." Thus, my goal as a tutor is to help students discover for themselves. That way learning becomes not only more engaging, but more lasting as well.
After graduating from Utah State, I taught 2nd grade for a year at a charter school. It was a good experience, but I wanted the chance to work with students in a variety of settings. During the past school year, I was hired as the Spanish Specialist at another charter school which has been another great experience. Some of my favorite subjects to teach are math, writing, history, music, and Spanish. I have tutored in English, reading, math, and Spanish.

As a former English major and editing minor at Brigham Young University I helped many students write and edit research and English papers. Along the way I also had the opportunity to edit an engineering Master's thesis. I have tutored in paper writing in various subjects as well as specifically tutoring in creative writing. I have worked with and on over thirty papers. I work very well one-on-one with students and am able to explain and teach what is necessary for better papers for the present and for the future. All of my students have received A grades on their papers.
I am able to help students build their papers from the bottom up and go through completed papers and give assistance. I feel that I am able to teach and explain the elements that are required in a paper so that students may write better papers in the future. I greatly enjoy the one-on-one experience.
