Some of my favorite artists include Egon Schiele, Gustav Klimt, John Singer Sargent, Mark Rothko, Edvard Munch, and Kathe Kollwitz. I much more of an abstract artist but can definitely incorporate traditional, academic approaches. My style of teaching is very calm and patient. I try to be a "guide on the side" as I help students create knowledge and realize their own potential.I believe the best way to learn is by creating understanding of conceptual ideas rather than attempting to memorize content. This is best achieved through constructive learning experiences that allow students to see the bigger picture and understand the brooder concepts. Once the student has a strong conceptual background, they can begin to work on memorizing facts, figures, and vocabulary to accompany their conceptual understanding.

I believe you can only help the student learn if you are willing to take time to "bend down" to their understanding and help lift them up. As a person that easily empathizes with others, it is natural for me to take time to understand the person who I am tutoring. Through building trust with that person I can naturally help them to understand what they may be missing or not understanding. I believe above all that patience is key in teaching people of all ages. If the teacher's listening and communication skills are focused on the individual(s) being taught, the learner will let the teacher know when they are grasping and/or absorbing new material as well as when they(the student) reach their capacity. I believe that in learning it's important to pace one's self, allow the mind time to digest new material, and in finding areas of learning that spark passion.
