I am a believer in the socratic method. As an Avid tutor we were taught to employ this method to help students understand concepts. I think that it is better to ask questions, and guide students' thinking rather than just giving them the answer, or telling them how to do a problem. Simply telling someone how to do something or giving them the answer prevents that person from figuring it out for his or herself. My teaching style varies depending on the type of students I am teaching to because I believe that each student has a particular learning style that they find easier. I think that it is important to find the types of learning that each student finds easiest to understand, and tailor the course so that it works well with their particular learning abilities. This can easily be done in a classroom setting as well as an individual basis. In either case, while I am teaching I think that it is important to understand the topic we are on before moving to the next one.
