A Little Bit About Me...

I have been a Special Education Teacher since 1998 and have most enjoyed and excelled with students through teaching reading skills. I have exceptional skills in motivating students to learn how to read. I passed the Reading Teacher Certification Test in November and am waiting for my official certificate with Reading Teacher added. I have 7 1/2 years of teaching special education in Illinois and Missouri.I am an IL certified Reading Teacher. I have been volunteer tutoring literacy students for the Springfield and Cantrall School Districts.

A Little Bit About Me...

My background includes teaching at the elementary level and at the adult education level, especially literacy. I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. During that time I took an intensive training course on working with people with learning disabilities. I have worked with ESOL students, as well.
I believe that each child/adult has a learning style unique to them. Finding what works and what makes learning fun, to me, are critical to success, especially to struggling learners. Positive reinforcement and encouragement are critical, as well.
