A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is based on student needs and abilities. I feel that every child is capable of learning and enjoying music as well as any other subject. A students progress is determined by their learning rate based upon their maturity level. Students learn at levels and must master one level before attempting a higher level. Therefore, as a teacher I try to provide instruction that meets a students needs and instruction that progresses according to a students mastery of necessary skills.
After receiving a Bachelor of Music in Education degree from Youngstown University, Youngstown, Ohio I was employed by the Crestwood Schools, Mantua, Ohio to teach instrumental music. Not only do I love to teach and help students learn, I also enjoy helping students develop an appreciation for learning in general. The most gratifying experience while teaching is the look on a student's face, after hours of confusion, after they reach an understanding of the concept. The environment that I believe works the best is one that allows the student to have fun while learning; which creates a more positive environment for future learning. I remember my experiences with teachers that not only instructed lessons, but also brought fun and enjoyment to the experience. When I started at UCF, I was invited to join a cohort of students who were on the path to become Educators, the STEP Program. This allowed me early on to get into a classroom and volunteer with students. These early experiences made me know for certain that my passion was in teaching. In Spring 2010, my degree in Elementary Education was conferred. Over the summer I worked for a Girl Scout day camp, and then was hired by the Citrus Council. I started tutoring with a company in the fall of 2010, and I love my work there so much. I am looking to be able to tutor more children, and expand my experience.
I like to teach in an "I do, we do, you do" way. I take the skill and demonstrate it for my student. Then, we practice it together until they gain confidence with the skill, then they demonstrate it to me that they can do that skill. I will do just about what ever needs to be done ... read more
