I am a few years out of high school, and I've taken several college classes. My AP knowledge spans almost every subject. I can help with almost all high school level classes and below. The various sciences are probably my best subjects, however my knowledge of Biology is fairly limited. I have tutored a few High School Freshman before in a program called "Senior Mentoring" I have also helped out a few family friends to get the grade to graduate.
This really depends on the subject, however, I like to do drills to keep basic skills sharp, and to learn new skills. Each student is different, and will need slightly adjusted methodology. I'm also very open to suggestion.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to create a relaxed fun environment while learning, and to also be able to put terms in simple lament terms. I think a lot of people are just very intimidated by science classes and I think that teachers and textbooks do a great job at scaring people into thinking they are tough subjects when in reality (from my experience) they are very rigid and easy to think about once you realize there isn't that much information that you need to know.
Hi there, I have more than three years of experience in tutoring/teaching general chemistry at Humboldt State University. I started teaching supplemental chemistry courses as a sophomore and through my experiences I was able to bring the passing rate of my chemistry class from an average of 70% to 80%. I have always enjoyed personal tutoring and TA experiences in the past. I firmly believe that teaching is a privilege, rather than just a responsibility. Teaching is about inspiring thinking and encouraging learning. As your tutor i will set goals for students to grow, and at the same time, allow the students to reasonably set their own long-term and short-term goals. Algebra II is one of my top subjects!

I worked at the Math Center in Sierra College for a year. I tutored every math subject. Some I prefer to tutor over others. I did some private tutoring with a girl while in high school. I went up to differential calculus and linear algebra at Sierra, but I'm better at tutoring math up to Calculus 1 and 2.

I feel I am able to translate to the student a better understanding of material, so that they are able to grasp the essential meaning of the subject and work with it. This was my motivation into entering the study of wine, both personally and collectively, so that I could make others aware and enlightened by a subject. Perhaps, this best describes my teaching style.
My life experiences included a continued study of wine, currently earning a Certification status with the Court of Master Sommeliers. In pursuing this subject, I was able to execute varied instructive wine events, developing a following of customers at previous jobs. Currently, I am studying for an Associates Degree in Biological Sciences, which required a retake of Intermediate Algebra, where I excelled as top student. My high school math was always at the "AA" or accellerated levels, having completed Trigonometry ... read more

As a Cal Poly graduate with a BS in Computer Science, I have had to master most math and computer science course material. My experience is teaching math to mostly older teens and young adults. In the professional world, I have trained all levels of employees on various computer systems (authoring, programming, operating systems, etc.). The training has taken the form of one-on-one, stand-up before a group, and creating online courses for "on your own" classes.
I believe that most subjects are not difficult to master. Most problems come from "under learning" the subject. Repetition may work for some subjects, but with math the student needs to understand WHY a process works. Once this is learned, the rest comes rather easily. When the student takes for granted a way to solve a problem, they are lost when the problem is presented in a different way. But, if the student ... read more

Statement of Teaching Style I feel that all learners should have access to the highest quality education possible. The object of education is to provide each student with the tools that will help them develop their individual talents. All students should be given an opportunity in a safe educational setting to demonstrate their talents. This opportunity also means giving every student a chance to show their full potential. Instructors must have a pleasant and enthusiastic attitude. Instructors must be accepting of all students regardless of ethnic background or other personal factors. An instructor should use a variety of instructional methods and delivery techniques to facilitate the learning process.

As an educator, it is my job to recognize each child’s individual learning-style and adapt my teaching-style accordingly. I will build upon each child’s abilities and strengths, and work to improve upon his/her limitations. By reinforcing the student’s positive habits and capabilities, I hope, not only, to assist with the subject at hand, but to encourage each child’s desire to meet his/her full potential in every setting, academic or otherwise. Combining my comprehension of behavioral psychology and my vast experience with children, I believe that I am well-qualified to assist any child in attaining his or her educational goals. Further, I believe that learning can (and should) be fun, and hope to instill that in each of my students.
For the past 10 years, I have worked in my community, helping to better the lives of children. At age 15, I began mentoring young girls and volunteer ... read more

Knowledge and skills are most permanent when we discover and create for ourselves, so I like to be a guide that leads the student to their own conclusions, rather than take over and lecture. I will be there to direct and support the student; I like when the student works at the board or on the paper instead of me, so that they retain what is being taught. I am very patient, and will work with the student on a subject until it is truly understood, and for more algorithmic tasks, until the student can quickly produce the correct answer.
Tutoring my fellow classmates was an integral part of my college experience. At Yuba College, I tutored math and chemistry in the College Success Center for two school years. A Little Bit About Me...

My first visit is just an assessment of where the student began to get lost regardless of the age or level. More often that not, they have to memorize their fractions to decimal to percentage conversion from 1/2 to 1/12. Given this underlying knowledge allows me to focus on the subject at hand. I usually recommend purchasing a Spark Notes or something similar for the subject as a reference guide. I use examples from the book to review, and assist in homework. I do not do the homework for them, however, do ask how they will approach it before diving in. I add tips and tricks and different ways to approaching the problem. I also assist in anxiety control, study and organization habits.

As I come from a family of educators, I believe teaching is in my blood. I am a product of a “learn by doing” university education and naturally, use this philosophy when tutoring. However, I believe I also blend-in an appropriate amount of theory so an understanding of the concept being taught can be applied to similar problems. Using a relaxed and patient approach, I enjoy sharing my knowledge with my students and helping them reach their learning potential. What a great way to make a difference.
Throughout my life, I have enjoyed and excelled at math and its applications. I graduated summa cum laude from an engineering program at Cal Poly successfully completing significant math coursework through advanced calculus. During the final two years of my undergraduate studies, I tutored university students in a variety of engineering classes, and more recently, I have been tutor ... read more
