My comments on tutoring Grammar : I began teaching grammar in Composition courses while working on my Master's in English at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville many years ago using Harbrace Handbook. Since then, I have taught grammar within various English and leadership courses at Vanderbilt, Belmont, NSCC, and Price Waterhouse, and USACE primarily using Diane Hackers' books. Since Microsoft Word is only about 33 percent accurate, students need to learn correct (rather than spoken or "trendy," i.e., using "so" to begin an answer) grammar

I have thirty years of experience teaching and tutoring writing for high school, college, and adult learners. Corporate clients have included: Price Waterhouse, Sara Lee, GE, DuPont, TVA, Square D, United Methodist Publishing House, Southwestern Company, Vanderbilt Medical Center, Genesco, and HCA. For 20 years I worked for Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, as a fifth through 7th Grade classroom teacher. I taught all of the academic subjects in various combinations, sometimes all at once to a self-contained class. The State of Tennessee recognized me as "Highly Qualified" in all subjects, from Kindergarten through 8th Grade.
