My teaching style varies depending on the student. Once I meet with the student and assess how he/she learns best, I tailor my teaching style to best meet his/her needs. Each student learns differently, and as a private tutor, I am able to meet his/her specific needs. I am a certified teacher in the state of Texas and have taught a variety of elementary grades over the past six years. Prior to this, I was a tutor for elementary students for five years. To teach reading, I teach the children to use all the reading strategies used by good readers.Examples of those strategies would be sight words, visual and context clues, and phonics. Then, I prefer to use leveled readers to improve their fluency and comprehension. For writing, after assessing their composition, I work with them to improve where needed skills such as organization, elaboration, complex sentences and transitions.
