During my undergraduate years, I was tutoring a local grade 4 student in math. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience in making a difference in somebody's life. During the last 15 years in my career, I have always been involved in training/teaching/mentoring individuals whether it is a new computer system or helping my direct staff to grow to their full potential.
My style is to teach a concept during the one on one session with me. I then give them homework to reinforce the learning on personal time. In the following meeting I revise what we learnt in previous session to ensure they understood before proceeding to next topic. I work with students with different learning styles (pictures, words and numbers) and will adapt to their needs. I am patient and will explain numerous times, in different ways, to ensure learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with students and helping them understand math and science. I believe it is important to understand the concepts behind the problems. I take the time to explain the concepts that challenge the students through examples. I give the students steps to follow to solve the problem and for word problems I teach them how to pick out key information needed in order to solve them. I also encourage the students to attempt the problems. Often times I have found the student does know how to complete the problem, but just needs the extra encouragement.
