My comments on tutoring Math : Taken in High School.

I graduated High School in 2011. During my junior year of High School I started home schooling so I could take college classes. I took three classes at Skyline College, all of which were completed with a B or better by the time I was a senior in High School. Along with my college classes I babysat a five year old and tutored him three days a week. During my senior year of High School I would regularly tutor a 16 year old and a 14 year old. After I graduated High School, I attended Modesto Junior College for the 2011/2012 Fall Semester. I always say I start my tutoring with the basics. Together we will master what you already know and from there we will move on to more complex skills. For a faster response you may contact me through email at: crystal_silva11@yahoo.com

Celestte Mefford, willing to teach anyone who is interested

I am a 22 year old female, looking for work right now to support my family and my college fees. I am a very down to earth person who is very calm and it takes a lot for me to get angry with someone. I speak fluent Spanish as my heritage is Mexican and White. I am willing to teach anyone who is interested in learning Spanish. My schedule is very flexible as of right now because I do not have enough money to support myself through college so I am saving up for it.
Anyway the student catches on. No specific teaching way, I just go off of how the student learns because everyone learns in very different ways.

I respect my students and they respect me. I expect them to work hard, because I work hard, as well. I will do what is humanly possible to help them achieve their goals. I connect with students on a personal level to find out their manner of learning, and after that, I find materials which will make it easier for them to learn. I enjoy working with students who love learning, but if they do not, I can still help them to do better in school.
I have been teaching for twenty seven years in various grades, schools, and types of classes. I taught for 16 years in a bilingual classroom. My last 11 years of teaching have been in a traditional classroom. I have taught every grade level from 1st to 7th, and currently, I even teach an ESL class after school. My areas of expertise would be writing, English grammar, Spanish, and social sciences. I currently tutor students to prepare for their s ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been fortunate to teach students at both ends of the learning spectrum. Four years ago, I decided to teach the remedial algebra courses at our high school. In doing so, I have built my repertoire of strategies to teach algebra concepts. I feel that my passion for the study of geometry combined with 21 years of teaching high school geometry, have made me a successful geometry teacher. In teaching a challenging subject like geometry to young students, I focus on vocabulary techniques and drawing diagrams that will make geometry as visual as possible.
I started college as a math major with a concentration in finite math. My goal was to work for a company using both my mathematics and computer programming skills. In my junior year of college, I realized that ever since high school I had enjoyed helping my friends with their math as much as I enjoyed taking math classes. I ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As an Application Engineer for a research company, it was my resposaability to train, instruct and give seminars on the material currently in vogue in Semiconductor, Biology, Physics, and Geology in materials to be analyzed. These seminars were meant to instruct and inform researchers of the techniques available. Most seminars were at colleges and universities in the U.S. and overseas. I began to wind down my travels and explored the potential of teaching locally. For the past three years I have been a substitute teacher in Tuolumne County district as well as 4 seminars every year.
I had no intention of teaching when I started my career in Psychology and the Analytical Chemistry industry. I continuously tried to improve my methadology to arrive at the right mix of stimulation and information to make the learning process as interesting as possible. In a one-on-one situation, I prefer dialogue. Assuming the student does the assigned work before the session, I find that a informal, relaxed conversation on the subject matter at hand encourages the student to further explore the addressed topic. If I am familiar with the student's extra-curricular interests, I attempt to relate the subject matter to such interests. I find that questioning the student in a conversational manner produces the best results, as opposed to the more stringent (i.e. boring) task of fill-in-the-blank worksheets. For writing assignments, I ask the student to write a paragraph which we then go over line-by-line so the student has immediate feedback on any errors.

As the oldest of five children, my 15+ years of tutoring experience includes helping my siblings in their homework when we were growing up. I have also taught English for two years at a private Junior/Senior girls' high school in Kyoto, Japan; mentored the English Speaking Society for the high school students; and, more recently, trained three content editors at Intel, as well as developed training classes for HP. Although I did well in math and science during my school years (my mother was a math and science teacher), I consider writing and English grammar my strengths. Scholastically, I am proud of having been a four-year scholarship recipient and of finishing the technical writing certificate program with a 4.0 GPA.

My mother currently works with children with learning disabilities at an Elementary School. From time to time I go to work with her and assist her students with whatever they are currently working on. I understand that everyone learns in different ways. I think that it is a teacher's responsibility to reach a student by the way they learn. I learn best by being walked through something step by step but I can adjust my teaching methods to however my student learns.
At a very young age I decided to be a veterinarian. While I have not yet completed this goal I have stayed true and remained in the biological science field. I believe that students can reach their potential if they are given the tools that they need. My job is to be the toolbox for them. As a special education teacher, I adapt my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. I believe that a child should be given a vast amount of positive reinforcement and always be spoken to and taught with respect. I also believe children need boundaries set that will consistently be reinforced. Our job is to teach them those boundaries but to do so with compassion. It truly makes my day, when I see a student that finally "gets" what we are discussing or learning. Teaching is a great joy for me.

I enjoy working with children. My theory of teaching is using the multiple intelligence theory. I believe that all children have the capacity to learn but in their own way. I like to incoporate different styles of learning in a lesson. I also like to incorporate hands on activities, because I believe that doing is learning.

I enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge on a subject with others. I think if you know a subject well and refuse to help someone in need with that knowledge, you are being a bit selfish. If you have knowledge, share it with the world even if the world doesn’t want to listen. I am also a strong believer that you can teach any subject to anyone, you just need to find the right approach. My goal is to find that approach and help the student achieve their greatest potential.
I am a recent graduate from CSU Stanislaus. I have obtained my BS in Biological Science with a concentration in Genetics and a Minor in Chemistry, which has given me knowledge and understanding in different areas of math and science. In addition to my BS, I have tutored students in Algebra, Algebra 2, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus since January 2005.
