As a graduate student in Evolutionary Biology at Texas A&M University, I worked as a teaching assistant in undergraduate ecology and zoology labs. I found this experience to be very rewarding and went on to pursue a MA in Instruction. Since completing both graduate degrees in 2008, I have been teaching undergraduate biology at Winona State University. I enjoy a variety of teaching settings. Whether it's a large lecture hall or one-on-one tutoring, I find the challenge of finding the best, most effective instructional methods to be very rewarding. In general, I believe that promoting critical and creative thinking through hands on, problem-based learning is a strategy that leads to student success.

After earning my BS in Biology and English, I have been able to mentor High School students in their studies . Helping students and people in general gives me a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. I do enjoy teaching and assisting people in any way possible. I began my teaching career as a piano teacher in 1994, taught a pre-piano bells class & obtained licensure in Kindermusik in 1996. I obtained a BM in Piano Pedagogy in 1997. I then went out east to nanny for identical twins with Down Syndrome for a year which gave me experience with children not only academically but on a day to day basis as well as rooted me well in understanding children with special needs. I then completed a BS degree in Elementary Education & was a substitute for the school district for over 7 years. I have also been teaching piano lessons privately for 7 years now. I am currently teaching preschool as well. I enjoy all grade levels & intellects as I strive to be the best teacher I can in a variety of ways.
