I have been a substitute teacher in all grade levels in the Alexandria (VA) City Public Schools District for several years, and within that I have a great deal of experience with ELL and Special Ed students. I am currently a long-term sub for ELL students at the Juvenile Detention Center school, which has added value in connecting to challenged and struggling youngsters. I try to put the difficult concepts of mathematics and chemistry into words and experiences that the student can understand. In the words of one of my tutees I teach "Barney-Style". In other words I talk in words they can understand whether I'm tutoring a 4th grader or a college student. It is my goal to make the subject less scary and more fun.
