I am an Elementary Education graduate from the University of Minnesota. I have experience teaching students with emotional behavioral disorders, students who were at high risk for failure and students in inner city schools. I have purposely taken teaching jobs that are challenging and found that I take pleasure and personal fulfillment in being challenged and I perform well in a demanding environment. I believe in differentiated instruction and helping students find the way that individual learns best. I also use active learning which enables students to talk, listen, read, write, and reflect on content through problem-solving exercises, simulations, modeling, and role playing.

I love to learn, and when sharing that knowledge, my ultimate goal is to leave the student with a spark that will hopefully motivate them to pursue the subject above and beyond the lesson. Motivation, learning style, and goal structure are components I consider when setting up a lesson. As a computer programmer, I tend to be task oriented. I like to break a project into smaller chunks with clear boundaries. I believe that having the student participate in defining these goals helps them focus, keeps them from getting overwhelmed, and gives them a way to measure their own success. In addition, the teacher needs to ensure the student is motivated to learn by providing materials and methods that are of interest to the student, and match his/her learning style. I began my teaching career as a piano teacher in 1994, taught a pre-piano bells class & obtained licensure in Kindermusik in 1996. I obtained a BM in Piano Pedagogy in 1997. I then went out east to nanny for identical twins with Down Syndrome for a year which gave me experience with children not only academically but on a day to day basis as well as rooted me well in understanding children with special needs. I then completed a BS degree in Elementary Education & was a substitute for the school district for over 7 years. I have also been teaching piano lessons privately for 7 years now.
