I have taught reading for four years. I have taught grades Kindergarten through fifth grade reading curriculum. I provide reading interventions daily for my students, as well as the core reading curriculum. I am familiar with Corrective Reading, Six Minute Solutions Fluency, Sound Partners, etc. I have had extensive practice with teaching comprehension skills and building blending/decoding skills. I have been to several reading trainings, including Anita Archer. I have implemented several of her practices into my own classroom teaching I have been a teacher with CPS for four years. I am a first year graduate student at UNO receiving my Masters in speech-language pathology. I completed my undergraduate degree at Hastings College and receiving a double major in both Elementary Education and Special Education. I have more than 850+ hours within the school systems, 425+ of these that are related to Special Education. I have provided services as a Respite Care worker to a little boy with cerebral palsy and have tutored several children. The process is just as important as the product. If a student can come up with the correct answer, but he or she has no idea how or why it is correct or how they got it, I feel like their learning is incomplete. Especially in Math, but also in many other subjects, concepts build upon each other. For this reason, I like to explain not just *how* to get there, but also *why* we got that answer; then students have a firmer foundation for the trickier concepts. I love seeing the lightbulb "go on," when kids finally "get it." I have been a teacher for 7 years.
