I truly believe in learning by doing. Being shown the answer never helps anyone. You must go through the process of doing to be confident in your abilities. I try to make the student feel as comfortable as possible with making mistakes. That's the whole point of studying, to improve. This requires a lot of patience and understanding of how the student views the assignment. Looking back the teachers that I learned the most from were the ones that kept my attention and had practical experience with the courses I was taking. I hope to emulate them in my tutoring.

A Little Bit About Me...

My most recent rewarding interaction with kids has been been the result of functioning as a mentor for the LC Bird High School robotics team. I've have been able to motivate many general students to join the “robotics geeks”. I find that all students have something valuable to add to the team if they are just approached and guided appropriately and offered respect. I can connect with each student on some level, whether it be academics, sports, science, or just humor. I have always been amazed at the impact individual interaction can have on a students performance. I particularly strive to make learning fun. A Little Bit About Me...

The most important skill I can teach someone is how. I believe in not only helping students to understand the material but instilling in them a joy of learning. I want students to understand how to get to the answers, why the answers are correct and how to do it themselves. This skill boosts self esteem and confidence. I also believe that it is very important to teach study skills and techniques that can be applied to master any subject or exam. Sometimes students get overwhelmed, but one of the most important things a student can learn is how to plan ahead and use their time efficiently. These skills can then be applied to any subject both inside and outside the classroom.
