I have had a variety of experiences as a teacher. I, at first, worked as a substitute for about 3 years. Then I worked as a 3rd-grade teacher in a private school for one year. Because of enrollment that position was cut. I went back to subbing for a time. From 2004-2009 I have worked for the Dallas School District as a personal tutor. I primarily worked with middle school-high school students. I tutored them both at home and at a computer lab on an internet program. That position was cut because of budget cuts. I am able to tutor in all basic subjects. I enjoy the process of helping students to learn. It is a great experience to see their minds grasp a new concept or idea. I realize that each student is an individual and as such may have a different learning style than another. My goal is to facilitate that learning so they feel and are successful in conquering the lessons to be learned

I became a tutor at the request of a professor, and this work has led me to discover the joys of teaching. I love assisting students with reading and writing and helping them to find in themselves ability, confidence, and enthusiasm. I love working with children. I have helped with pre-K and grade school children with an emphasis on working with Autistic children. All children can succeed in school given the right tools; just because they do not get the idea from one method does not mean that they won't get it from a different method. I think that all children can learn regardless of age, learning ability or other status, if given a chance. I spent two years teaching and tutoring Autistic children. I aided in routine skills, verbal skills and dealing with change. I have worked with two different children on these skills. I also have extensive skills in writing and researching for my research papers. I also have great knowledge of APA format and can write an essay in no time flat.
