To be a lifeguard, one must first learn to swim, then learn different techniques, then continue to refine those techniques to build up stamina and speed. The same is true of mathematics. First one learns number sense, then algebra skills, then a deeper understanding through practice, as well as new and more challenging problems. Taking a student from their current knowledge base to a much broader and deeper understanding is what I like most about teaching. Every student is different, so they often take different paths to gain a fuller comprehension. I believe any student can succeed if they are willing to work through this process of gradual learning, connecting new concepts to their current experiences. As the daughter of two educators, I spent my childhood immersed in educational values. My passion for education lead me to attend Western Washington University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and History. I tutored Geometry and worked in several classrooms at both the high school and middle school level throughout my time at Western.
