I have always had an interest in math and science, and I got my start tutoring in high school by helping fellow classmates and friends in these subjects. I went on to earn my BS in Mechanical Engineering from U.T. Austin. I have also spent much of my life in the world of music and began teaching beginner piano lessons several months ago. If the subject matter is analytical and involves numbers, I can certainly help you figure it out. I begin by first gaining an understanding of what their knowledge and perceptions are on a subject so I know their level of comprehension. Afterward, I like to illustrate the main parts as they relate to the whole so the student can get a full grasp of how each component fits into the big picture. From there we delve deeper into the details of the individual pieces. Towards the end of my college career I assisted in "Community New Start" in Austin, TX which was a mentor program assisting high school children in under-privileged districts. It has been my privilege to teach at many levels and venues over my career which started in the mid 70’s. Elementary Education was my first major, and I enjoyed teaching in a Christian setting at 5th and 6th grade levels for many years. I opened my own Reading Center to help special students. Later I went to graduate school at St John’s College. I’ve taught Jr. High, H.S., and Jr. College. Most recently Sylvan Learning Center has given me great experience teaching reading, writing, and math. My goal is to help students succeed in learning and in gaining confidence.
