Literature includes all of the wonderful genres of literature. Students need to be exposed to the best of them in order to appreciate them and analyze them. For the past three years, I have been teaching Writing at Austin Community College. Prior to that I taught teachers as an online facilitator for PBS. In addition, I have been a special education teacher and coordinator and an English/Language Arts/Reading teacher in Texas, Ohio, Connecticut, and New York. I believe that all students can learn to read and write with an approach individualized for each learner regardless of the age.

I try to avoid lecture in teaching. For me, personally, instruction comes from helping the student understand the material on their own without having to directly be told everything. This comes through in creative exercises that help the student to understand the concept better and to hold onto the idea much easier.
