I am currently teaching the Marine Biology Field Studies and Lab course (OCB 4043L) at Florida Atlantic University. I take my students into the field on snorkeling trips to teach them field sampling techniques, and then how to analyze samples back at the lab. In the past, I have been a Teaching Assistant for Life Science Lab at FAU; a first mate on a snorkel boat in the FL keys; and a science instructor at the Newfound Harbor Marine Institute in Big Pine Key, FL. I believe that the learning process in the sciences requires a combination of individual study time, instructor guidance, hands-on experiences, and reflection time.
