I was born in Santiago, Chile and moved to the U.S. when I was 7...I have lived here in the United States for 13 years now and kept my Spanish. I completely fluent in both languages. I have taken Spanish classes to help better my writing and reading and it has made a big difference. I am ready to teach others the Spanish I know, its a great benefit to have! A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children and always have. I feel my teaching style is more in the Socratic method in that I like to ask them questions until they come to the answer themselves because I feel that increases the retention rate of the subject. Additionally, I like to take the concepts that are being taught and give them real world applications and examples to make the learning more relevant.
Throughout high school and college I volunteered at a local summer theater workshop for children. In this program I started out as a teen counselor and moved on to be an adult helper and play director. Also, I worked for a summer as a camp counselor for the Freeport Youth Summer Program where I led children in games and some educational programming. In college I acted as an informal tutor and study buddy to classmates.

A Little Bit About Me...

I like teaching through differentiation methods. I believe all children learn differently and teachers need to offer different options to facilitate those students' learning and enhance their multiple intelligences.
I was a volunteer to teach Religion in a At Risk school. I understand every person learns in different manners. Therefor, I have learned how to teach some students by use of examples and others by basic understanding and concepts of the idea. I encourage the thought process of the individual student so that they can learn their own ideas and therefor learn how to use these ideas on exams and future applications.

A Little Bit About Me...

In my experience as a tutor, my students have most often struggled with Spanish because they're not able to see the perspective put forth in class. I've learned that by looking at a concept in a new way - with new examples, a story, a different context - the 'right' approach for that particular student can be found. I absolutely believe in a patient, understanding approach that encourages questions and discussion, and leads to a deeper understanding of the material.
I've always loved languages. In high school I started studying German, Spanish and French. At the university level, I continued with German and Spanish (majoring in both), and also took two semesters of Portuguese.
