Having taught for more than five years as a certified teacher, I feel that I have what it takes to be an educator. Understanding the psyche of the student is of prime significance to me, which helps me in directing the teaching strategies and techniques. In order to let the student realize the significance of learning, I try to design a curriculum that is application based. I prefer that the student understands the purpose behind learning. I try to make learning fun, while encouraging questions and an "out-of-the-box" approach to problem solving. The ultimate goal is to develop an independent and motivated learner. I currently work as a professional science/health writer, and I have a keen grasp of literature comprehension, grammar, and composition. I have tutored students in English, math, and science. Additionally, I have volunteered as a soccer coach, Sunday school teacher, and "Hands-On Science" instructor in the classroom. One of the most important parts of my teaching philosophy in tutoring is to adapt to each student’s learning style. While teaching Elementary Composition, I used technology in the classroom in order to make the required subject matter more appealing to my computer-generation students, by giving PowerPoint presentations and showing you-tube video clips as a means to practice analytical skills on popular culture.
