Latin is one of my top subjects!

As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My philosophy is that teaching is part knowledge, part communication, and part intuition. My intuition is necessary to understand where a student is getting stuck. I myself already understand the material; the challenge is to understand why a student does not. A variety of communicative teaching approaches is best. I believe that the most important characteristic that a teacher must have is consistency. The teacher must develop a system of rigorous work with ample support. I have taught 5th and 6th grade ESL students for this semester, and I have taught English two summers in Korea at intensive English immersion camps. I have also tutored adult and college level students in English at UT while obtaining my degree and enjoyed it the most. Having quality one on one or small group time is the best for students to acquire the knowledge they need, and have instructors that can focus on their individual needs. Not only did I tutor students, but I also helped colleagues whose first language was not English with assignments and my college roommate who was from Taiwan.
