I have a very long history in school -- I have been in and out of school for many, many years, staggering my diploma, bachelor's, master's and doctorate across 25 years interspersed with jobs in industry. I believe learning is a lifelong process and that it never ends! I have a diploma in public relations, a bachelors in telecom, a master's in mass communication, and a doctorate in communication. My areas of focus have been advertising, public relations, and journalism and I have worked in all those fields -- I believe that writing and good communication are essential! I do not have a particular teaching style because I don't believe that a single method works for everyone. Therefore, I operate from an Occam's Razor perspective -- whatever is the simplest solution is the best. I believe I am very empathetic and perceptive, which would enable me to determine what works best for each student. Admittedly, I have no direct (structured) teaching experience. However, I have nearly five years of experience in the journalism field, and during that time I've mentored a number of fledgling college and high school journalists. And while journalism and political science are my two specialties -- given that I have degrees in both -- I also have a fair amount of expertise in the tangential fields of English and History.

I enjoy working with students of all ages, although most of my experience has been with middle school age and older. I use a couple of different techniques to help students understand math, including using visual aides, problem solving techniques, role reversal (where they explain a lesson to me), blackboard/whiteboard work, and games. I believe it's really the responsibility of the tutor to understand the student's learning style and adjust the teaching to fit the learning style. I have tutored students in math and science (mainly math) for over 13 years. I have helped students in various levels of mathematics - basic math, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and pre-calculus.
