My love of teaching comes from a lifelong love of learning. After graduating with a 4.0 from Vestavia Hills High School in Birmingham, AL, I went to Auburn University to pursue an Industrial and Systems Engineering degree. I believe that learning needs to be fun, but that students need, and most of the time want, structure in their classrooms. I believe that learning needs to be relevant to students. They need to know why and where in their lives they will need or be using what they are being taught. I use a variety of instuctional methods while teaching (lecture, discussions,group activities, etc.) so students stay interested and because every student learns differently. I believe there needs to be mutual respect between the students and teachers. The classroom should be a place where students enjoy learning, feel safe, and are respected as individuals.
