As an undergraduate student at Utah State University, I spent two years working as a Undergraduate Teaching Fellow, a Teacher's Assistant, and a Supplemental Instructor. I taught labs and assisted students with understanding information in the subject areas of Microbiology, Human Anatomy, and Human Physiology. I held review sessions, created tests and quizzes, and met with students individually or in groups to answer questions, review tests, or improve study habits. I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways. The sparkle in a child's eyes when they finally "get it" is the best paycheck. After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades. My tutoring style is based on three principles: patience, excitement for the subject and alternative explanations. By day I work as a process engineer in a manufacturing facility. I love my job and the unique problems I get to solve every day.
